Grief Support and Life's Firsts

Back to all Memorial Guides

Grief does not follow a timetable, and there is no right or wrong way to feel. It can change how you sleep, how you think and how you feel, sometimes for a long time. The firsts are often the hardest: the first birthday, the first anniversary, the first Mother's Day or Father's Day, the first Christmas.

I hope these guides give you a little comfort on those days. They cover how grief affects the mind and body, how to help a child who is grieving, what to say to a friend, and gentle ways to remember someone you love.

I have been so honoured over the years, through making memorial jewellery and talking with the families I make it for. They have taught me so much about grief. If you are finding things very hard, please do talk to your GP, the Samaritans, or someone you trust. With the festive season coming, you may find how to handle Christmas after a bereavement helpful, along with my memorial Christmas decorations.
